Indian Superstitions

Indians have a lot of age old superstitions and beliefs that mould our lifestyles. Many objects are used to ward of the ‘evil eye’, while many occurences are considered ill omens.
I have tried to include nazar battus as well as ill omens in my symbols.
Icon set.
The icons are all constructed in a similar geometric, contemporary style.
Sour foods like Nimbu (lemon) and Mirchi (chilli) are considered to be loved by Alakshmi (goddess of misfortune). Therefore, they are hung outside shops, cars, homes and other instituitions to keep the Goddess busy at the door and prevent her from entering.
Broken mirrors have the power to seize a persons soul. Looking into one can bring 7 years of bad luck.
Inspired by a voodoo doll, and having influences of kaala jaadu (black magic), this nazar battu is often hung outside shops. It is supposed to ward off the evil eye.
Black cats are associated with witchcraft, and are hence ill omens. A black cat crossing ones path is considered very bad luck.
I made some luggage tags using the Nimbu-Mirchi icon, for some friends and family.
I hope they have evil-eye free travels!
