Lost Space: Meditation Bridge

The dilapidated bridge over the Moshassuck River in Providence is a lost opportunity to connect the urban forest of the Roger Williams Park with the river bed itself and the thin tree line along the opposite bank.

Because it has been left to naturally deteriorate, the bridge represents a transition from human occupied space to a reclaimed natural environment as it deteriorates. The intervention creates a meditative footpath that connects each bank and the river bed. By crossing over the exiting bridge, sloping down to the water and crossing back up on the other side, a balance between the human footprint and the living natural
environment is established.
