Foundations of RISD: Informed by Tradition and Adapted for a Contemporary Outlook
The 2014 Interior Architecture Charrette topic was the re-design of the Waterman Gallery at the Rhode Island School of Design through the introduction of a new exhibition system. Waterman Building is the home of Foundation Studies and the Nature Lab. As a school of art and design, Waterman Building holds the special distinction of being RISD’s first public galleries in 1893. Today, the Waterman Gallery at RISD serves as a symbolic crossroads and the genesis of all paths of study at RISD. The proposed intervention will create a cohesive and versatile gallery that is informed by the legacy of the Waterman building while showcasing the continued growth and evolution of the Foundations Department and RISD as a whole.
