BANTAYOG : A Collection of Historical Landmarks and Monuments

Every region of the Philippines has at least one historical post. This prevalence suggests that the country has a rich cultural and historical tale to tell.

The commonness of this circumstance on having historical posts sometimes lead to ignorance among Filipino people where historical landmarks, and monuments merely turn to landscape decorations, pathways, or just ordinary statues being passed by people and especially residents near the area. This reality depreciates the value of the historical posts.

Appreciation may sometimes come from a deeper sense of understanding. Any subject has its own creation story that will relay not only information, but also meaning to its existence. And history may be seen in such way that appreciation of the present may sometimes come from a deeper understanding of the past.

The proposed coffee table book thesis on photography features the Philippines’ historical sites, landmarks, and monuments within Metro-Manila and nearby provinces, including respective narratives on their establishment and essentiality to the Filipino culture.

The researcher chose the theme to promote appreciation of the historical posts that contributed to the formation of the Filipino nation.
