The fairytale that I choose for this exploration is Peter Pan. At the very beginning of the story, the storyteller says: All children, except one, grow up. Peter Pan is the boy who can fly and never grows up; he lives in the neverland where is a world of fantasy with his friends. When I was a little kid, I think Peter Pan is a hero that he against Captain Hook bravely and he represents the freedom. Since I grow up, I realized that the story is about the conflict between the innocence of childhood and the responsibility of adulthood. We can remain the inside innocence, but we can’t prevent the outside aging. Nowadays, our society is much more complicated and constraint, that’s why people take Peter Pan as an idol. People want more freedom and sometimes they want to escape from the cruel reality world. For instance, some parents always required their children to be the best one in every field; otherwise, children will be blamed or even beaten by their parents, especially in China. In order to complete the wishes of parents, children are living the life that actually they don’t want. Parents put all their wishes on their children’s should basically is a kind of escapism, and children are too young to face reality, the negative emotions often lead to a bad situation.
