BLIXT - A Student/Faculty Art Publication

Blixt is a yearly publication that is put out by the students and faculty at Missouri Southern State University.
They submit your work, it's reviewed, and put in the magazine. One of the projects in our
Publication and Layout Design class is to create a cover and spread for the next issue.

Back in 2013, I was on a really big 'geometry' kick. In the process notebook for this project, I noted that
"a great part about using geometric shapes is that you can keep a very simple layout while
creating a very stimulating aesthetic". That's something I still find to be true.

I decided to do a cover inspired by that in order to show that our art can be generalized as 'art'
(similar to how a 'circle' can be called a 'shape'), but possess a lot of unique and interesting qualities.

The spread needed to be simple as to not step on the works' toes, so I aimed for a simple grid that could be modular in color scheme and in layout. It eventually got minimalized even further,
basically only keeping the type.

I think that this was fairly successful(my design got chosen out of the class of 15+ and was printed!),
but looking back always make me with I would have done some things differently. :)
