This is a three-week project that started with first making a simple sculpture-like repeated model with white paper. Then I did an observational drawing of the sculpture. After I did an observational drawing, I then traced only the outline of the drawing with a basic formation of patterns in mind, meaning also including a sense of negative space between the lines. The third phase of this project is to come up with two different color combinations for this pattern.
The final work is 15" x 15" and done in gouache.
Through this project I was able to explore the interplay between positive and negative space and also the process of turning 3D objects into a 2D pattern that still speaks the spatial relations.
