Letter to You
That weekend I finally got to do what I had always wanted to do with my video pieces. This project had so much energy behind it. So many people helped out and took a part in making this piece even happen. I can’t even begin to describe what it was like. We were in the moment with clarity.
We woke up around five in the morning, while my professor, his wife, and a fellow classmate started driving out to Lexington at 2:30 in the morning. That kind of energy already got me going. All of us got ready and went out while the stars were shining as bright as ever and some decided to fall. It was beautiful. Everybody got up to the hill this chilly morning to help set up. It was such a group effort. From running up and down the hill to relay extension cords, trying to get the generator to work, group hugs to warm the projector up so it would turn on… just making it happen. The sun started to make it’s way up slowly over the horizon casting beautiful colors out into the world. Finally, the video was up and running. We threw out blankets over the frosted ground, and looked up to take it all in. The video was playing as the sun was rising. Light was no longer a frustration with the projection. It was a part of it. The sounds of nature and all of its inhabitants were a part of it. Two cranes flew over us, disappearing behind the sheet, and reappearing on the other side. Everywhere we looked there were mountains and hills upon hills with layers of fog hovering around them. After awhile of just being we made our way down to the retreat, and the wonderful Anne had prepared a delicious breakfast for us. But first the horn had to be blown since it’s just that kind of day.
