Book Design: What Did You Eat Today?

For this assignment, I designed an 80-page book based on the Slow Food Movement. I had to design the layout, create content, and use my own images for the entire book.

I knew that I wanted the design to be more informative, and graph-heavy rather than using photos. I wanted it to feel more like a reference piece than a promotional brochure. I chose a tone and feel that I think really spoke to my intent, to inform. To express my concept, while still using it to clearly communicate information, I only used two colors plus black and white.
I studied a lot of infographic design and chose a tone and feel that I think really spoke to my intent, to inform. By using type and/or page layout to express my concept, I was still able it to clearly communicate information.

I decided to go with a modern, sort of textbook-like look, since I thought that a book about food with tons of food photography was kind of stylistically overdone. I ended up doing a lot of infographics and geometric imaging that I think gave a fresh look on food.
