This project was made in collaboration with SomeMud, as part of a bigger project for the GUC Music Ensemble, who were rearranging and performing the Egyptian classic operetta "El Leila El Kebira" (The Big Night).
This sound piece was created as an introduction to the actual performance of the Ensemble. It was intended to be played, while the audience was still taking to their seats and preparing for the main show.
Recollection & Voices of the Past is a collage and sampling of the most prominent sounds of the 1960's, in specific focus on former president Gamal Abdel Nasser's archived speeches. A satirical and somewhat sarcastic approach was intended with the sampling of 'out of context' songs and electronic instruments.
For most of the audience in Egyptian society, this piece acted as a form of nostalgia, taking them back to that era.
