Bronze glaze with hint of metallics.
Above is the original glaze and stenciling found under layers of wall paper during the owners restoration.  Only 1 wall of the four had this left behind.  The old glazing had melded together with the paste from the 1st layer of wallpaper leaving variations of tone throughout the pock marked wall.  Yet it was obvious the original was a bronze tone glaze.  The stencil pattern was traced and hand cut to reproduct the border design.
Original wall.
A wainscot demarcation line was obvious.  The homeowner wanted grasscloth panels which were to be glazed in a deeper tone.
Original stencil detail shows hand applied outling.
First the walls were given the bronze glaze treatment.
During the stenciling.
Above shows the glazed grasscloth waiting for the wood trim.
Hand painted outlines are complete.
It was important to the home owner that the glazed walls look old as thought just uncovered.  Variations in bronze tone were used to give the feel of old plaster from long ago.  The stencil was also applied slightly faded to maintain the look of original age.
