Mesa View Over Time- Jennifer Sparks

Mesa View Over Time

Jennifer Sparks   |   2015  |   Sculpture & Geological Sciences

This piece was created over the course of several weeks for a couple hours every day. It is a time lapse. It is a clay-mation. It is the product of a process of observation, of walking the same trail over and over, observing its changes on different time scales. This piece aims to reflect those changes in an attempt to better represent the landscape as an experience endured rather than a single stagnant image of a moment.

It quite literally has to do with a course, as the Mesa View Trail (a nature hike on the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, NM) was my subject matter, and was born out the desire to make the routine of my personal art-making something intentional and beautiful: walking, exploring, observing my surroundings. Art-making in itself if a routine, an artistic habit is a practice, and I try to be more deliberate about those aspects of my life.
