This image was inspired by looking at lichens and mosses under a microscope in Tiny Town (my favorite part of the Nature Lab). Through this observation, I became fascinated by the miniature landscapes that these lichen growth patterns resemble-- what would it be like to wander around in those worlds, taking in the scenery and charting a minuscule path? Excited by this strange yet familiar topography, and inspired by the idea of manipulating my own surreal landscapes to navigate, I created four original collages. These were then digitally put into repeat to function as fabrics for apparel-- wearable roadmaps for imagined moonscapes.
