When disaster strikes in one part of the world, those of us separated by physical distance are also comforted by a social buffer of sorts. Despite the open trade of information that online media allows, many opt to focus their sympathies into statistics and hashtags rather than on images and firsthand accounts. I created this piece shortly after Typhoon Haiyan last November, and hoped that it would break free of such a removed course of remembrance.
