Taking inspiration from Patti Smith’s collection of prose poems The Coral Sea, Waves of Memory focuses on the combinations of words as a conceptual exploration of Smith’s written work. All creators are in some way their own work through imbuing their narrative experiences into their tangible and intangible creations. As a parallel, intangible words are translated into tangible garments visualizing the dripping emotions and pensive mood of Smith’s poems. What if Patti Smith wore the layered imagery of her poetry rather than documenting them onto paper? If The Coral Sea was a collection of clothing, rather than words and phrases, what would it look like?
