Repeated concentric and radial patterns with XOR textures and contrasted hues cause many peoples' visual systems to “see” the presence of motion where there is none! If you focus on the center of the pictures below, the circular patterns will expand and rotate (to enhance the effect move your head forward and back from the screen). These pictures may also induce a “hypnagogic state” (mildly altered state of consciousness). In fact, such pictures are used in therapy to get wake induced lucid dreams or to simply enter into a meditative state.
