Wood Table // Above and Below

 
 
Without a context to criticize, the table is not able to come to life. It serves a purpose and that purpose was told through a narrative. I began to discover associations or understandings of this narrative through a series of drawings, using language as a key driving force. The table takes on different amounts of weight, metaphorically and physically, from carrying light to carrying a cup of tea.

It raised no fuss under so much weight 
 Swaying once or twice 
meanwhile the man kept putting...."

The ground is being uplifted from the earth, becoming the table surface. The table bounds a void to express the airy surface and the dense grounding of the below. The void is a moment of silence. The roots of the table emerge from the earth uplifting the surface, contextualizing what is above and below and what it means as a user to be within and without
