Bike Trails Proposed to Help Nevada Community

An experienced metallurgical engineer and mill supervisor, Kiedock Kim currently serves as a mill manager for Veris Gold USA at Jarritt Canyon Mine in Elko, Nevada. On top of his professional endeavors, Kiedock Kim enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including biking.

The Las Vegas Review Journal recently published an article stating that Nevada’s Nye County is expected to gain 300 to 500 additional miles of off-road trails to be used for mountain biking, running, hiking, and horseback riding. With construction slated to begin in February 2015, the proposed single-track mountain-bike trails will run through the Beatty, Nevada region and are projected to link the area with Rhyolite and Death Valley to the west.

The trail proposal was created by the nonprofit Saving Toads Through Off Road Racing, Ranching and Mining in Oasis Valley (STORM-OV), which was started by David Spicer of Spicer Ranch. If the trails are developed as planned, they will cross federal lands, the Spicer Ranch, and other private properties of consenting landowners. STORM-OV hopes that the trails will foster healthy lifestyle choices, as well as tourism to stimulate much-needed economic growth.
