I'm Gonna Knock On Your Door

Visual Music is an exercise in translation. For this project, I translated musical information into visual and typographical form. I chose Eddie Hodge's "I'm Gonna Knock On Your Door."

It's a song about how persistent infatuation can be. When I designed this, I, myself was infatuated with someone that lived only a few doors down from me. While I wanted to just get on with school, my infatuation kept persisting that I do something about this person. It was this enormous, overwhelming feeling knocking down my door to knock on his.

It's the kind of infatuation you find in cheesy after school programs, where you lose your mind at how much you repeat yourself. So I chose to use Archie comics as a reference and cut off Archie's head as a means of musical notation. Then I arranged the figures of Archie to make it seem like he's creeping up on someone.

Finally, for typography, I made the type to be black and monumental, looming over Archie as he futilely tries to get the girl.
