Iron is a material that has been used throughout the ages. It has been a tool involved in everyday life for generations. When a designer makes a piece from iron, they are creating an artifact, something that will surely outlive them. I wanted to pair this material with something just as timeless-- fire.
Oil lamps have been used in homes for thousands of years, and mine is no exception. This family of lamps have been sandcast in iron, the lids and bottom edges have been ground, filed, sanded, buffed, and torch heated for a darkened, colorful finish. The pieces have been coated in renaissance wax and topped with wick holders made from filed and sanded copper sheet.
