Low Lyfe: A wooden graphic design

This project started out with a graphic created on Adobe Illustrator.
I then etched the design with a laser cutter into an 8"x10" Birch wood frame.
After the design was etched, it was time to fill the negative space with a different material. For this, I chose a strip of 1/16" Zebra wood because of its dark colors and opposite grain direction.
A quick sanding to bring out the grain of the birch and clean up the etching.
Although the pieces fit in with a snug tolerance, I used a small amount of wood glue to permanently secure the pieces.
To give the wood a glossy finish and coat of protection, I added several coats of a water based wipe-on poly.
Lastly, I added a zebra wood frame to the exterior faces of the birch.
