Starting with paper models, the above shape was formed from it's 2D identity into a 3D modular piece. Multiple pieces would create a cold tension in a orbit.
Above: a draft of the expected final product. The elements (a finalized template of which seen at the top) were created haphazardly thus the form was asymmetrical throughout. 

Below: smaller studies with more constraints. A consistent proportion of angle and dimension was carried out. However, it lacked a way to index the elements at the same spot. The final project, shown beyond, incorporates the revisions of the drafts of these first two images.
