Prisoner of the Mind – Installation

Location-based installation.
FDR once said that, "Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds." Our perception is often so heavily influenced by our memories of the past and planning of the future, we let the present moment slip us by. Consumed in our past mistakes and worried about the inevitable future, we become prisoners of our mind, restricting ourselves with fear and self-doubt. The viewer sees themselves in the reflection of the mirror behind prison bars but in one part of the mirror, some of the bars have been bent apart. In the gap, the viewer cannot see their reflection, it is as if they have escaped the prison.
Extensions of the bars connect to the doorframes of both entrances to the space, signifying the connections to the past and future.
The escape.
