Dwelling House

Budapest 2008-2010

Situated on a tightsite, in a predominantly suburban area of Budapest, this building consists 3 No flats, a small spa area, and a tiny wine cellar. It is a home of one three-member family, and wasdesigned with utmost care to meet their desires, in particular the specialneeds of those family members with (physical) disabilities. All spaces had tobe designed to be fully accessible, based on a deep understanding of thefamily’s lifestyle, to provide them a HOME which really suites their personalities, and contributes to their mental and physical wellbeing.
Sustainability was alsoon the top of the agenda, a great effort was made to reduce the building’sreliance on fossil energy. The layout was designed to maximize solar gain andreduce the heat loss; living rooms are mainly facing south and south west andare “protected” by service zones as a thermal barrier from the north. Thebuilding fabric was designed to achieve an outstanding thermal performance, which, together with the most up to date building services, significantlyreduces the building’s energy consumption.
