Ray Tracer / Programming

Simple Ray Tracing
August 2012
As a sophomore student and an inexperienced programmer, I couldn't help but wonder how does a rendering software create an image. When I curiously asked for help to better understand this concept, I've been introduced with abstractions in programming for real-life physics and the ray tracing rendering technique. After some tedious trial-and-error phase I could finally rasterize a red circle onto my screen, using nothing but an IDE and C++! This inspiration helped me to implement more features on my simplest ray tracer such as handling various geometry, texturing mapping, anti-aliasing, and point and (fake) area lighting with hard and soft shadows.
