Green man carved in wood or stone appears throughout pagan history as well as in churches, chapels, abbeys and cathedrals. Carvings of green man are often link to natural vegetative deities such as the Celtic Cernunnos and the Greek Pan and Dionysus.
 
It is primarily interpreted as a symbol of resurrection and rebirth, representing the cycle of growth each spring. In Christian mythology they are considered that they represent the life giving breath of the Holy Spirit. In any case they are inspiration for carvers and woodworkers for centuries as a cross between men and nature.
