L’oreille gauche
An identity featuring a logo design inspired by art. This is a conceptual project.
L’oreille gauche, translated into English as “the left ear,” is a recording studio in the Canadian province of Quebec. They provide audio recording and mixing, along with offering technical training. There’s a genuine passion for their work.
The goal was to create an identity that resonated with how the studio presents itself to the public, with the logo at its core. I had a tight schedule and was limited to the information available on their website.
The name stood out to me. I thought it was weird. So I decided to focus on it and create a literal representation. But I aimed to avoid a cartoony style since the studio takes its work seriously. I also avoided a realistic approach because its a creative job that is in no way boring to them.
What I created is a logo inspired by the modernist art that was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries--an art movement that rejected old traditions and encouraged experimentation. The style balances the playfulness of the name with the professionalism of the studio.
This project was a challenge. I made a few mistakes early on that became valuable lessons, like ensuring the logo works well even when scaled down, to avoid the need for redesigns. But I still enjoyed doing it. I hope to design more logos in the future.
