The Fishermen - A Unique Furniture Collection

The design of ‘The Fishermen’ collection arose out of a preoccupation with innovative Irish design. Through  studies, I discovered thatch roof formation differed depending on the location of the house, whether close to the sea or to mainland. The person thatching naturally used knots and skills specific to their profession. I became fascinated with tension and compression, hence string being an integral ingredient to the success of the piece. While the string serves as the main body of support, it also provides the intriguing visual beauty of the double curved woven surfaces, to the side seam.

There is also significant similarity throughout the collection to the highly illuminated text from ‘The Book of Kells’. A hand illustrated manuscript Gospel, created in the 7th century by monks, it is widely regarded as Ireland’s finest national treasure. The footstools are multi-functional, depending on how you feel it will meet your needs: rocking stool, footstool, stable stool, the choice is yours.
