I designed, modeled, and machined this racecar toy concept for a Design Final. The goal of the Design Final was to be able to take a design through the stages of product development, starting on paper and ending with a physical finished product. Growing up around Indianapolis, I have always had a fascination with classic racecars, especially Indy cars. I took my inspiration from older classic racecars/sport cars and created my own interpretation of the car's form. The design started on paper and quickly transformed into a detailed 3D CAD model. From the CAD model, I was able to develop the tooling paths that would allow me to machine the racecar. I chose to machine the racecar out of a solid block of 6160 Aluminum because its easliy workable, affordable, strong. The racecar consists of a main aluminum car body, turned aluminum wheel hubs, silicone O-Ring tires and specialized shoulder bolt axles.
Fully machined and assembled aluminum toy racecar.
