UNTITLED     //     Shoes

“Untitled” shoes first began as an experiment of combining wood with cotton linen,
and leather. But because I ran into issues of re-inforcing the cotton linen uppers with leather lining and maintaining
the original touch, I had to abandon the initial concept and turned to all leather uppers to pair with the wood soles. I had a very tight time constraint. When I abandoned the inital concept mid-way, I had one week to come up with another concept
and make it by hand and ready to be presented in a gallery.

The uppers are made out of leather where the parts were stitched together by hand
using thick waxed thread. Where there is stitching, black waxed canvas is used as the inner-lining. The outsoles
are made out of exterior grade water resistant finnish birch ply that originally came in 0.8mm sheets, which I layered
and formed to the bottom of the shoe-lasts in order to obtain it’s current form. The wooden outsoles are stitched
to the leather uppers at the front portion of the shoes. The back heel is reinforced with
more leather, stitching, and black canvas lining.
