Summer Explorations on a Four Harness Loom

I spent my summer working on a 4 harness hand loom as an intern at the Hartford Artisan’s Weaving Center. I created innovative new products that could be sold for the non-profit center that works with elderly and blind or low vision Connecticut residents.
I wove one 6’ room divider panel. It is meant to be viewed from both sides as the floats alternate from back to front. The open sections in the screen allow light to pass through, yet are small enough to allow for privacy.
Details of the hand manipulation on the divider panel.
One of my assignments was to take a fresh look at one of their staple products: the scarf. The final products are shown with my warp wraps and inspiration photos.
A cotton and wool blend piece featuring woven fringe along the side of the scarf.

A striped cotton, wool, and mohair scarf that uses elastic to create a puckered texture.
I proposed the idea of creating woven jewelry. I worked with a painted warp to produce a subtle color shifting across the pieces.
