Youth Awake – Poster Design for a Fringe Festival
Youth Awake is a fringe festival that encourages people to appreciate their passion and time as well as re-discover their youth and childhood dreams. Hence, the design shows a demonstration of  mixed media in ink painting and digital composition to express the metaphor of forgotten childhood and awakening.
It is a festival targets on people who aged 25 and above to gather together on the same day at same location to do various of crazy and funny activities we missed during our young age and aims we wanted to achieve, such as playin in a band, bungee jumping, sky diving and more.
Since we were young, we had a lot of ambitions and dreams. As we got older, we tend to get influenced by the society and care too much of what others think of ourselves. Gradually, we stop dreaming and forget how to have fun. ‘Youth Awake Fringe Festival’ is organized for people to re-discover their youths. The purpose behind ‘Youth Awake Fringe Festival’ is to encourage others to appreciate their dreams and time because ‘youth’ is not plainly about age, but a period that everyone chasing after their dreams and fuelled with hopes without have to worry of others opinions.

On the other hand, the black and white background meant to express the idea of ‘forgotten childhood’ instead of hand illustrated graphic and ink splats. The illustration was meant to be drawn ‘childishly’ while showing off a broken dollhouse filling with rooms representing different dreams of a kid. On the other hand, the reason behind those ink splats was to express the idea of ‘fading’ or ‘disappearing’.

Based on the title ‘youth awake’, a contrast is created within both words in different colours and typefaces. With the word ‘youth’ filled with dull colours intersecting with the colourful ‘awake’ in the same strategy as the background, the purpose is to make it unconventional by opposing with the idea of youth and replaced with a opposite theme which related with concept of ‘forgotten’ or ‘giving up’. While the principle of intersecting texts is to emphasize on the word ‘awake’, which meant to be noticed first by viewer instead of ‘youth’, this is also related with the concept of forgotten youth/childhood.
