Traditional Moroccan design inspired this steel side table. Moroccan tables are typically made of ornate round-patterned wood, but in this piece, I employed steel and sharp geometric designs instead. The emotional impact I wanted this work to invoke was the opposite of the traditional tables making this piece masculine, physically cold to the touch, and minimal.

I chose to work with steel because I liked the natural finish and I did not want any visual joints. After trial and error, I used a water jet to cut these pieces out precisely.

I hope to come back to work on this piece again. I know with a second wind of design vision I can bring functionality to the air space inside the cage beneath the table’s surface. I hope to install a light fixture that would cast shadows around the legs of the table. Currently I have the table outside to develop a rust patina.
