Brief
I had to design a game based on my areas of interest, which were travelling, challenges, exploring new places, photography, learning about different cultures. So I chose to design a learning game which would be used in schools and homes to make the process of learning more interesting and interactive.
With my past experience of learning, it was difficult for me to memorise geography as a subject. There were so many things to remember which were not interesting and at the same time it was difficult to visualise. Based on this experience I interviewed children of 9th and 10th grade to know their experiences.
User group

The target user group are children of age 10 - 13 years. After interviewing this age group I understood their perspective about travel and could get answers ti various questions like:
- What kind of places they like to visit?
- How they like to travel?
- What they like to do in a vacation?
- How much they remember from their past travel experiences?
Brainstorming to get insights on the user group
Game play and game mechanics

I got the following categories which would be used in the game play of the game:
- Clothing
- Food
- Sports
- Art
- Experince
- Transportation
- Occupation
- Wildlife
- Terrain

After the interviews and brainstorming I didvided all the things that had to be covered from a curiculam and user interest point of view. Based on these I got the following categories:
- Resources & development
- Forest & wildlife resources
- Water resources
- Agriculture
- Minerals & energy resources
- Manufacturing industries
- Lifelines of national economy

Important aspects in the game
Market

There are no elearning games in the market which are based on geography and travel. This game woudl children enjoy the game, they would learn important things about a place while playing. The game is based on experiencial learning, when children interact with the environment it's easy for them to remember things as it has a audio as well has video impact.
Eg. Children who have played Age of Empires game, they would find it easy to learn those civilizations in history as they would already have a visual idea about them.
About the game

I have taken one state from India to develop a trailer of the game to give an understanding of how the whole game would look like.
It would be a treasure hunt game which would involve various tasks and on completion of which the user woudl discover new places and get achievements. All the details in the game would be as close to reality as possible.
Concepts
Story - 1

- This was a story where the child had to follow the places in the map and could reach the end of the map.
- When the child personally goes to a place he doesn’t know the name of the place or much about the place.
- The exploration of the places should not be forced on the child and he should be left free to do that.
- That character was also supposed to be big in age rather than a small kid.
Concept 1
Story - 2

—- Rather than being a survivor he could be a savior or an adventurer which would make him feel superior in the game play so I changed the story accordingly.
—- He could have saved someone or be on an adventure but when I interacted with the children I got to know that they like more of adventure games.
- A story where he got a map for a treasure and he is racing against time to find it.

Story - 3

- —When we have less time then its not possible for a person to explore the place.
—- The game shouldn’t be time based.
—- There should be achievements at every stage.
—- After considering all the points I concluded on one story which the children also liked.
Final story

- —“the grandfather of a child gives him a treasure map before dying which he is able to connect with his childhood stories, which his grandfather used to tell him.”
—- The character is about 15-18 years of age and he got this magical map which shows the route to the treasure.
—- The map shows all the points where he has to go before reaching the final point but they are locked.

Key points of game:

- —He gets different vehicles in all the stages.
—- There is no time limit but the player has to manage the money and the health.
—- Money he can earn by doing different tasks which the local people do for living.
—- Health he can be increased by purchasing the food which is available there.
—- He can buy vehicles in particular stages depending on the money he has.

Rules:

- He cant unlock the next stage until he finishes all the tasks in the previous stage.
- He can go towards any direction in the map, that ways he’ll explore more.
- At every stage he’ll get a key to the next level which is an achievement.
