Laser Cut Rose Necklace

Project completed in 2013.

I am very interested in the use of CNC construction techniques such as laser cutting to create intricate but easy to produce jewellery. To explore this, I prototyped a necklace using laser cut MDF.
The overall dimensions are 60mm x 40mm.
The fittings are silver with galvanised steel jump rings. Due to the unusual shape of the components, these had to be handmade. Note the 'e shape' bottom ring holding the wooden gem, and the loop that passes the chain around the leaf stem.
The design had to be very subtly adjusted to increase the strength of the form. The stems had to be thickened and connected, and the wooden loops in the rose head needed thickening.
