> THE PRODUCTION PROCESS
CREATING THE BOOK TRAILER
When coming up with the ideas for this project, I wanted to make something that would show the mystery and suspense that Naoki Urasawa uses to hook readers into the story and world of 20th Century Boys. With the knowledge, I have of the series and the information provided on Viz Media's website and YouTube channel I began to develop an idea of how to create this trailer.

FINDING THE RIGHT TONE
I wanted to find a medium between mystery and intrigue to make this trailer eye-catching and interesting enough to watch. I looked through audio and music files to try and find the right sound effects (SFX) to garner more engagement from viewers so that they wouldn't just be looking at manga panels the whole time.

> CHALLENGES
PROGRAM USED: ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS
AFTER EFFECTS / EDITING
Since, I am not familiar with After Effects this project was challenging. One challenge I faced was finding out how to manipulate the audio within the program. So that everything was cohesive. For instance, not making the audio and music too loud so that it blended nicely with everything else was challenging. After Effects doesn't have too many audio editing options. Another challenge was finding which effects would work best to get the overall feeling I wanted to convey. Through learning and experimenting with the different features as well as watching tutorials, I was able to learn more and more about what the program had to offer. A third challenge was finding out how to edit everything I wanted in a way that was meaningful, impactful, and also kept the message of the story. Despite the challenges, I faced when making this project it also enabled me to learn a lot from this experience.

> CREATIVE DECISIONS
MANGA PANEL COLOR CHANGES
I wanted to add some color to the manga panels to add more detail and aesthetic rather than just staring at black and white images on a screen. Therefore, I grabbed the color palette from the front page of the book and used those hex codes to add different color overlays to the manga panels using After Effects. I feel as though these color changes increased the visual appeal of the video.

TITLE CARDS
I added title cards to mark the different centuries in which the events take place by utilizing the same color palette from Volume 1 of the series. I feel as though these title cards help to break up the events well and divide the video into different parts that make the story easier to understand for the viewer.

SFX
I added footsteps, rumbling sounds, outdoor sounds, applause, and static sounds to the book trailer. My reasoning behind using these specific sound effects was to emphasize the panels and effects used throughout the duration of the book trailer. I felt as though adding these SFX would help make what the viewer was seeing more engaging. Since, having a sound to match what's happening in the the various panels used would also help the viewer's understanding of what is happening in the story/trailer. Thus, utilizing not only sight but sound as well. For instance, matching the outdoor panel of the manga with outdoor SFX.
