YING AND YANG
YING AND YANG DEFINITION;
noun, (used with singular or plural verb)
1) In Chinese Philosophy and Religion - Two principles, one negative, dark, and feminine yin, and one positive, bright and masculine yang, whose interaction influences the destinies of creatures and things.

2) the ying and yang, the dual and contrasting aspects of principles of a particular field of activity, thought, etc.

~~~
I have always been fascinated with the Ying and Yang image, then when researching into this more and the meaning behind it, it inspired me to create a illustration inspired by it. The idea of the two contrasting aspects of negative/positive, dark/light. I wanted to replicate this and create two characters based upon these elements. One who represents dark, and the other who is light. How they form a Ying and Yang physically through the illustration but also their characteristics also display this idea too. Alas, Ying and Yang was born.
COLOUR EXPERIMENTS
I then experimented with the use of colour, and how this could manipulate the outcome. Below are my two colour outcomes that I created.
Left - Monotone use of only using red - Due to the horns I added to both of these characters, I liked the idea of red as a symbolic for anger and sexuality. But also for it to be striking and attention seeking.
Right - Introducing colours for detailing, such as hair, skintone and features/details - Creating more personality between the two characters
FINISHED RESULT
I decided to finish this design in a grey scale. As much as I enjoyed experimenting with the colour elements, I thought that the grey scale was the strongest outcome - Especially due to wanting to reference the black and white of the Ying Yang.
Thank you for looking!
Hope you enjoy Ying and Yang as much as I did creating them!
