Mascot and Mural Design: Jia Yang Di Skewers & Noodles

Mural and Mascot Design
Client: 家羊地 Jia Yang Di

A playful, joyous mascot and mural design undertaken for Chinese Skewer Restaurant Jia Yang Di
Mascot and Extended Logo Design

The Client requested the Characters to be a Lion and a Lamb. I wanted the resulting illustration to reflecting the joyous, lively atmosphere Jia Yang Di aims to replicate in their own eatery
The client also requested the brand's original typographic logo to be incorporated in the final product

Character Guidlines:

Joyful, adorable (Less angular lines and shapes!) and preferably engaged in an action that reflects the nature of the eatery.

Inspired by Southern-Chinese lion dancers, a sight often seen during Lunar New Year heralding joy and good luck. Jia Yang Di's lion mascot has been anthropomorphized to look like a jolly person with a magnificent stache and flaming red hair.

The lamb was slightly adapted (with the approval of the client. of course) to look a little more sheeplike, friendlier, fluffier and with more rounded shapes and forms.

I chose a red and gold palette— colours representing joy and prosperity in a chinese context, you'd notice that the Lion's eyes are closed in the final logo image, check out that expression of deep contentment! Of course, noodles and skewers feature prominently in the imagery.
Mural Development

The next order of business was to incorporate the two newly conceived characters into a mural to be displayed on one of the largest walls in the eatery.

I first added a bold, shape-driven background reflective of the decorative arches and red walls found in chinese gardens and palaces.
The client then requested the addition of more beer and skewer elements, and I was happy to oblige!
The mural: Printed by the client, on-site and in-use!
