Katya Solodina's profile

In Charge of Change

Katya Solodina's collage series explores the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on young individuals' values. Juxtaposing children's playful bodies with old men's weary heads, the artist suggests that the guilt for what is happening stems from the total uncertainty, dislike, and underplay of old men in their childhood who now compensate for this deficiency by playing with our destinies and the whole world.

Katya uses recycled cardboard packages as a background, which were shared with the artist by her friends who didn’t see the point in recycling at a time when all humanistic values no longer matter.
Solodina's thought-provoking artworks serve as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for empathy, understanding, and playfulness in navigating the complexities of our world. As humanity's values are called into question, the artist's collages offer a ray of hope and a call to action for a more compassionate and sustainable future.
