CAD/CAM was a project which tested the core design skills required within the product design industry. Starting with the disassembly of an existing drill, we modelled all internals 1:1 in Solidworks (measured to the nearest 0.01 mm). Following this, we designed the outer casing of the drill, ensuring the product was correctly designed for manufacture, in the identity of a different tool brand, in this case going from Draper to Makita. Many pages of thumbnail sketches were produced to help ideate quickly and efficiently to help produce the final model which would house the original components from the Draper drill. These models were then rendered into their ‘In-Situ’ environments using KeyShot .
