SeaFarer: Eco-Friendly Labels and Package

In this fun challenge, I was asked to design labels for an environmentally conscious seafood company, using eco-friendly inks and 100% recyclable packaging of glass and cardboard. Each of the three jars needed to be distinct and unique from the others, but still needed to feel cohesive with the rest of the set.

I chose fish from different parts of the world and gave each fish character a piece of headwear to signify it's origin. A viking helmet for the Icelandic cod, a crown for the English kipper, and a laurel wreath for the Italian anchovy. I illustrated the fish by hand with gouache, then scanned them in to set them with type.

The seafarer logotype was especially fun, as I turned the "f" into a fishhook, and the box itself is reminiscent of a submarine, and obviously my color palette is made up of oceanic greens, blues, and teals.

The jars and box together. Designed so the fish peek out of the "portholes" of the box.
Three labels, distinct, but part of the same family.
