Gestalt Mosaic
This was made for my Visual Communication class at Cowley. It was made from cut magazine papers and mounted to black matboard. It depicts a computer-like brain inside a person's silhouette. For this assignment, I was instructed to build a mosaic based upon the visual-psychological Gestalt principles of proximity (grouping/separating objects in relation of their distance to each other and what ever is around them) and similarity (grouping/separating objects due to shared or opposing characteristics). Through proximity I allowed more negative space between the person & background, creating an outline. In similarity, I utilized contrasting colors to distinguish the brain, person, & background from each other, as well as computer chip shapes for the brain differentiating from simpler forms in the rest of the person.
