PSA Poster Series

PSA Poster Series
The current project entailed creating a set of PSA posters and ads in various forms. This includes two 16" x 20" posters, two magazine ads, a social media ad, and a web ad, all sized accordingly to meet specific guidelines. Each poster has a clear and short message, striking imagery, and call-to-action. The posters can be read quickly and from a distance as if someone was to read them while walking by. The topic of the PSA posters and ads is abolishing the death penalty. The artist made the illustrations specifically for this project. Each poster reflects images of an everyday person and someone on death row in the same pose performing similar actions. This helps the reader to empathize with people on the death penalty so they think about the real harm in the death penalty.

The colors black, white, and orange give the series a simple, clean, and illustrative look. Black and white create contrast while keeping the color palette simple. Orange evokes associations with prison and prison uniforms to help the viewer understand the simple illustrations. ArponaSans is a bold, sharp, sans-serif font that gives the majority of the text a serious and intense feel. Black weight gives the headline hierarchy, while regular weight creates lighter, easier-to-read body text. Tablet Gothic Condensed in heavy weight helps to emphasize certain words in the headline while keeping important words together. It is heavy enough to match ArponaSans but condensed so that the words can fill more space vertically. The statistics referenced in the project are from the Equal Justice Initiative, an organization dedicated to equal justice under the law.
