Sheet Metal Lighting

Project Lighthouse

Given a set time constraint of three weeks the brief was to take a single sheet of aluminium and create a new product without introducing any new course materials or parts. Through extensive research and prototyping the end product consisted of various geometric shapes and required metal sheet folding as the manufacturing technique.

Utilising Fusion 360 I started by sketching the shape of the sheet metal component I wanted to create. Then, I switched to the sheet metal workspace to set parameters like thickness and bend radius. Using the bend tool, I added folds where needed, visualising how the sheet metal would look when bent. After that, I unfolded the model to generate a flat pattern, which served as a guide for cutting and folding the actual material. This process allowed me to accurately plan and design the sheet metal part before manufacturing, ensuring it would fold correctly and meet my specifications.
