Title: The Man in the Green Blanket

In this work, I question the state of our South African Constitution No. 108 of 1996 with regards Chapter 2 referring to the workers right to strike especially towards and after 20 years of democracy. In particular, I choose to focus on the ‘The Man in the Green Blanket’ called Mambush, the courageous leader of mine workers who was shot dead by the South African Police Service (SAPS) during the Marikana Massacre. According to the media (documentary feature film that uncovers the truth behind the Marikana Massacre by Rehad Desai), Mambush was shot with14 bullets and died on spot. This Monoprint depicts mine worker in the state of silence, with eyes closed and mouth covered. The aftershock and trauma that miners and many South African faced on the 16th August 2012 brought uncomfortable memories of Sharpeville Massacre that killed 69 people. The action that the police took on that day clearly shows how far our country is in realizing true democracy.
