The Heist - Claymation

The Heist - Claymation
Claymation holds a very special place in my artists heart. From the technical aspects to the visual style, I am always blown away by the whole process of Claymation. So for my first attempt at a full animation I knew I wanted to keep the scope small so I knew it would be easy to get in over my head. So I went with creating a simple Valentines Day virtual greeting card.
I started by creating all of the clay models and characters. This was my first time creating a clay characters so I wasn't entirely sure how to create the posable skeleton. I ended up going with a tinfoil body with toothpicks as connectors between arms so I could rotate them. Although I probably would not go this route again, it worked for the minimal amount of movement I needed. When taking all of the pictures for the animation, I knew I would need to do a bit of post production to clean up the shots. So I took all the still pictures into After Effects to turn hem into an animation and add additional visual effects. I wanted the animation to feel like a antique French film, so I chose music that reflected that and added noise to the video to mimic old cameras.
