McCarter Theatre modernization and renovation involved work within historic campus buildings, and required close coordination with the University’s Department of Physical Planning, the Architectural Review Board, the actual department user groups, and the students.

 

Phase I of the project involved the complete restoration and acoustical improvement of the theatre, while the building remained partially occupied.  New side balconies were hung from trusses and the proscenium was lowered, which allowed for a new angled ceiling and an increased sense of intimacy.
