Sail - Furf Design Studio

Sail

The project Sail, was a turning point in my time at Furf Design Studio, the first project in which I participated in all stages, research and fundamentation, conceptualization and project guidelines, generation of alternatives, 3D modeling and prototyping. This project become even more special to me when it received one of the biggest design awards in the world, the IF Design Awards.

Sail is a funerary urn designed by Furf Design Studio, created with the futuristic and sustainable mycelium based biomaterial of the startup Mush.

A poetic and equally environmentally conscious alternative to bring lightness to such a delicate moment. Fernando Pessoa wrote that “to sail is necessary” and this urn allows ashes to be placed inside for a final journey. Created with renewable and biodegradable organic matter, the urn dissolves in water or soil within a few days, serving as natural fertilizer.

To ensure a sustainable future, a global commitment to adopting practices that aim to preserve the planet is necessary. In this regard, solutions related to the concept of smart living, which seek to make life more intelligent and sustainable, have been widely discussed. However, it is essential to remember that solutions for a sustainable future are not limited to the concept of smart living. It is also crucial to consider environmentally respectful approaches for an equally important moment: the end of life, that is, smart dying.
