The challenge was to create a visual presence for the "grandaddy of them all" that would represent the history and glory of the Rose Bowl. In collaboration with the game director, we felt that using historical images would allow us to visually illustrate the history of the game. Given that the game was on January first, we felt that the color palette was too close to that of Christmas, so I suggested adding additional color to broaden the color range and loose the holiday feel. Next I developed the tag line "Tradition, Honor, Passion, Strength," which represents all the aspects of the Rose Bowl Game.
The Rose Bowl Committee along with the original sponsor AT&T loved the concept, which was used with great success for ten years.
