Isaac McCaslin, Borge's Map, oil on canvas, 46 x 58 in. 2012

The painting titled Borge's Map concerns a relationship between Romantic Era Landscape Paintings and Postmodern era virtual realms. Both are modes of escape from the harsh realities of each periods historical context. From Industrialism to Consumerism to the Procession of Simulacra, the painting is not only a meditation on how digital and consumer culture effects Mental, Environmental, Human, and Cultural Bodies but also a meditation on the timelessness of Escapist Romanticism. And, to be clear,  I don't mean 'Escapist Romanticism' in any Pejorative sense.
